When I’m not at work on stage I want to be riding my bicycle, or in the gym.
I’m starting off from Pacific Palisades, where I usually park when I ride at the beach. I’m heading to CicLAvia on Venice Blvd. today.
It’s Sunday morning so everywhere in the parks along the beach are people working out and doing yoga.
Venice is a different kind of place, with unique architecture. There are strange buildings and every style home you could think to build.
CicLAvia is an event which takes place a few times a year here in Los Angeles, where the streets are closed down for part of a Sunday afternoon in order to accommodate their use by cyclist, people walking, on skateboards and other types of transport that are not motor vehicles. The heart of downtown is my favorite, but Venice CicLAvia is off the beach bike path so it’s always great.
One of the things I really like about CicLAvia events is riding around and hearing all the different music people are playing from boomboxes on their bicycles and live bands on the routes as it drifts in and out of consciousness, always changing as you move along. And finding new places to explore.
Also everybody’s unique and different bicycles.
After riding up Venice Blvd. to the eastern edge of the event I decided to go have a beer. Usually I would ride down the beach to El Segundo Brewery, but today I am headed through the back streets of Venice and Santa Monica to go to the Santa Monica Brew Works. It’s a brewery whose beer I enjoy, but this will be the first time I have visited their brewery.
One thing I really like about this area, Santa Monica in particular is the good cycling infrastructure.
After a pint at the Santa Monica Brew Works I headed through the side streets of Santa Monica, enjoying the architecture and the musicians.
